My name is MALU. meaning peace and shelter. I was raised in a home near magnolias, oak trees, and rich soil; Louisiana. I am an interdisciplinary artist mastering writing, visual media, and performance art. I have been performing slam poetry since 2017, but I have been creative writing since I was 10 years old. I am well versed in poetry, songwriting, short stories, and blogging. My love for poetry, religion/spirituality, psychology, and politics led me to begin podcasting. I created It's Giving..? in theory while in Florence, Italy studying Renaissance art. After reaching a very low point in my life, I needed to connect with other black, queer creatives to reinvigorate hope for myself and others. In just 9 months, I connected with several booming artists and interviewed them about various topics such as quantum physics, Voodoo, astrology, and personal anecdotes that influenced their journey. Social media content, editing, and promotion was done alone and it revealed a fearless surge of action I thought I didn't possess. After graduating from LSU in 2023, I moved to Oakland, CA to teach the youth and to make integral connections of the black migration to the west. Now, I am releasing my debut poetry book titled Attachment Theory. This is my brutally honest love letter to my family and past friends/lovers. It is a record of my healing and active insight on how it feels to break away from generational curses and cycles of pain. Let this book remind you how love is the most aggressive force, how pieces of your heart can be left in the past as we begin anew. We risk when we choose to love, we unfold when we practice to love, and we revolt when we act in love. Because love is revolutionary. This book will be launched on July 7, 2024 accompanied by visuals on my YouTube channel: Sol Speaks. In fall of 2024, I will be returning to It's Giving..? for season 2.
